Be aware of what can cause your piano to need restoration. Extremely low humidity during the winter months, which is caused by your furnace or boiler, is a major problem for pianos as well as other acoustic instruments such as violins, cellos, and guitars. 

 A humidifier should be used to keep the humidity in your home at or above 30%. You'll need to do this from late November through mid-March every year. Another source of damage is direct sunlight which can fade and damage the finish of the piano.
